Optical image stabilization provides approximately four stops of compensation, with two OS modes available for handheld shooting and panning situations. A new Zoom Torque switch allows users to adjust the level of zoom ring resistance, offering options for Lock (to secure the lens at the wide end for transport), Tight (to prevent zoom creep), and Smooth (for easy and smooth zooming). The lens also features additional on-lens controls such as a Focus Limiter switch, OS Mode switch, Custom switch for custom OS settings, and three customizable AFL buttons for added convenience and customization.

It features a dust and splash-resistant structure that protects against water and dust intrusion. The front element is coated with a water and oil repellent coating, resisting moisture and fingerprints.
